By providing a consistent format for multi-screen TV services, MPEG DASH will play a significant role in how this market evolves, making its presence felt first on HbbTV 1.5 compliant devices in Europe. Thanks to common encryption it is easier to support multiple DRMs with DASH, one of the factors contributing to reduced complexity and cost. Here, two of the companies who are leading the march towards MPEG DASH, Harmonic and NAGRA, outline why the standard holds so much promise.
