HDR+, the grouping of high dynamic range, wider colour gamut and 10-bit sample precision, makes television pictures feel real and provides the noticeable difference to the consumer experience that justifies a change in the TV system. Unlike 4K resolution, the benefits are enjoyed regardless of how far away you sit from your widescreen television set. That is why Matthew Goldman, SVP Technology for TV Compression at Ericsson, thinks it will turn out to be the most significant change to the TV viewing experience since the change from black-and-white to colour.
