Keepixo’s 4K encoder has been integrated with Broadpeak’s nanoCDN operator CDN technology, which makes multicasting of adaptive bitrate streaming video possible. The aim is to enable the cost-effective deployment of live 4K services to any screen.

Keepixo’s AL2000-UHD platform provides high quality, multi-profile encoders and comes in a compact 1U form factor and encodes content into HEVC Main 10 profile with optional support for HDR. Output is available in either IPTV or OTT formats. When used in OTT applications the AL2000-UHD also features a built-in packager. nanoCDN technology uses software downloaded into broadband gateways or set-top boxes that converts unicast requests from CE devices into multicast requests to the network and then turns multicast streams from the network into unicast streams to the end devices. This makes multicast feasible for ABR video.

Visitors to NAB Show this week have been shown demonstrations of this technology integration. “While the new 4K format represents a great opportunity to the whole video industry, it poses new challenges to OTT service providers,” says Jerome Blanc, COO for Keepixo. “Our collaboration with Broadpeak simplifies the deployment of 4K OTT services.”
