Netflix to pass 50% originals by 2021; content spend against revenue already equal to Sky and NBC

Netflix is targeting a 50/50 split between acquired content and original productions and will pass this landmark for 50% original content spend by 2021, according to forecasts by Ampere Analysis. The SVOD provider’s content spend will grow from $4.7bn in 2016 to nearly $6bn in 2017. As you can read elsewhere, Ampere Analysis believes Netflix is determined to become a premium channel – and the proportion of content spend to revenue is now on a level with major platforms and channel owners like Sky, NBC and ITV.
