‘Walter Presents’, the ad-supported free streaming service from Channel 4 that makes foreign-language drama available to UK audiences, will be launched in the U.S. in March, but this time as a subscription offer. Walter Presents will be an SVOD offering costing $6.99 a month and the viewing experience will be ad-free. The Norwegian thriller ‘Valkyrien’ and the French political drama ‘Spin’ will both make their U.S. premieres via the service. This will be a joint venture between Channel 4 and Global Series Network (GSN). This is the first step in a planned global roll-out for the service, according to David Abraham, Chief Executive at Channel 4.
The new Walter Presents service will be Channel 4’s first major investment outside of the UK and it illustrates the digital ambition at the UK broadcaster. The SVOD offering be available on a variety of platforms and via browser at WalterPresents.com. Initially 34 series will be available to view from 12 different countries. Each season will be made available in its entirety, allowing viewers to binge watch the content. The service will continue to premiere two new series each month and all the series will feature high-quality customized sub-titling.
Jason Thorp, CEO of GSN International, says, “We’ve developed a strong, smart, standout brand, cleverly curated with a proven performance track record and we’re confident it will strike a chord with U.S. audiences.” Walter Presents debuted in the UK in January 2016.
