Proximus, the Belgian IPTV provider (and telco) will achieve significant CapEx and OpEx savings after upgrading its ATEME-based video headend to a full-software solution, the company has revealed. The headend caters for various resolutions and codecs using the TITAN software processing and is used for national broadcast channels. Thierry Demoor, Head of Applications & Service Platforms at Proximus, says the biggest benefit from the new heasdend is the simple upgrade path for future service requirements.

Using the ATEME software-based video processing, Proximus will be able to support H.264 in SD and HD using the same off-the-shelf hardware. “Upcoming 4K-UHD phases with HDR [high dynamic range], HFR [high frame rate] and WCG [wide colour gamut] will be efficiently activated, depending on the use case we want to address, and we can offer HD HEVC to customers who only benefit from SD today,” Demoor adds. TITAN is an ‘any input/any output’ solution to support both main screen and multiscreen services.
