Metrological, whose technology enables operators to integrate their TV and OTT content into a single viewer experience, has announced that STB provider Technicolor has adopted its Application Platform and Web-Platform for Embedded (WPE) for its high-end 4K Ultra HD hybrid cable and IP set-top boxes.
The Metrological technology consists of an open-source browser and framework architecture with software plug-ins. The platform is currently used by operators such as Liberty Global and Comcast who want to deploy high-performance rendering of HTML-5 apps, integrated user experiences and third-party services on their STBs.
WPE offers popular plugins such as Netflix, and provides pre-integrated and pre-certified software code, enabling new services to be launched in months instead of years. Metrological says the platform simplifies the on-boarding of premium OTT content, providing a unified framework for IP-based video delivery, enabling operators to support integrated user experiences.
Thijs Bijleveld, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Metrological said an open, browser-based approach allowed operators to integrate apps and premium OTT content into a single viewer experience. By adopting its technology, Technicolor would allow its customers to leverage modern browser-based technologies, he said.
