Accedo has launched its ‘Operator Tier Android TV Launcher’ as a platform within the Accedo Studio Pay TV edition product. At IBC2017 the company was demonstrating the solution on a range of certified Android TV set-top boxes from various hardware partners. Android TV Operator Tier is a version of the Android open source OS for set-top boxes that leaves operators in control of their own user experience and branding, with the chance to ensure their service gets pre-eminence over third-party apps. Accedo says its Launcher product “enables Pay TV operators to embrace and extend their set-top-box video services to the dynamic and open Android TV ecosystem, while remaining in control of their brand experience at all times.”
Accedo promises that its ‘Accedo Studio Operator Tier Launcher for Android TV’ will: enable a short-time to market for operators launching on Android STBs; provide extensive customisation options to enable differentiation of video services; ensure operator content is prioritised ahead of third-party content. Integration to service provider video infrastructure, content management systems and other back-office components is made easy, Accedo says.
‘Accedo Studio Operator Tier Launcher for Android TV’ provides a personalised, recommendation-enabled user experience alongside a a traditional broadcast channel guide. It gives access to broadcast services (including recordings), OTT services and the wider world of Android app-based content.
