Synacor has announced ‘Forever Login’, a product designed to curb password sharing associated with operator TV Everywhere services. This solution automatically registers a user device the first time someone logs into a TV Everywhere app and continues to authorise video on the device in compliance with operator policies. “Whereas all existing authentication solutions require a user to re-enter credentials after a set period of time, Forever Login simply prompts users to ‘continue’ to access the app or site they are using to watch Pay TV,” the company explains.
Operators can decide the maximum number of concurrent devices that are allowed and the length of time before viewers need to login again, if ever. They can also set the number of failed login attempts that are allowed. Automated enforcement and attack prevention solutions are also available.
Synacor points out that password problems are a frequent reason for service calls and these can be reduced by eliminating the need to re-enter them. Password recovery is also available, making self-care easier. Users can also monitor all devices that are signed-in to stream video under their subscription and so spot suspicious activity. If a device is lost or a password stolen, a consumer can remotely log that device out of a service.
“Forever Login lets TV Everywhere subscribers say goodbye to passwords, while giving operators the tools they need to tackle what analysts [Parks Associates] are calling a $10 billion password abuse problem facing the Pay TV industry,” Himesh Bhise, CEO of Synacor, declares.
Forever Login is available on Synacor’s Cloud ID identity and authentication platform. It can keep users logged-in across multiple apps when paired with the company’s mobile Single Sign-On technology.
