Major upgrade to Austria’s simpliTV streaming service adds many more channels plus nPVR, with help of Insys

The Austrian broadcast and TV services group, ORS, has upgraded its simpliTV OTT offering so that instead of including eight channels on iOS and Android devices it now has over 40 live channels (from multiple broadcasters) across a much wider variety of devices and web browsers. nPVR, pause/resume across devices, content recommendation and catch-up TV all feature in the upgraded simpliTV offer. The upgraded service went live in April.

For this enhanced service, ORS is using the InsysPLAY OTT platform from Insys Video Technologies. This platform enables media companies to manage, monetise, distribute and promote their content through client-branded websites and apps. Insys supplied a complete OTT solution including back-end and front-end application software, server hardware, Dell EMC storage systems and eight instances of the AWS Elemental Delta video delivery platform.

API integration between InsysPLAY and AWS Elemental Delta enables ORS to offer catch-up and nPVR recording, just-in-time packaging and DRM functionality in the simpliTV service. InsysPLAY also monitors ORS’ AWS Elemental Live encoders and interfaces seamlessly with simpliTV’s existing business systems for subscriber management and e-commerce.

The InsysPLAY platform includes built-in analytics and this capability is being used on simpliTV. This deployment also integrates with the YOUBORA suite from Nice People at Work, providing ORS with advanced visualisation and business intelligence. “The incredible flexibility of the InsysPLAY platform enables us to put a variety of ever-evolving business models into operation for the future,” says Michael Zettl, Head of Product Management at simpliTV.
