Viacom is adding its flagship networks to Pluto TV’s channel line-up and unveiled a new slate of original digital programming during its second-annual NewFronts event in New York.

Having closed its US$340 million acquisition of Pluto TV in March, Viacom said it will debut BET, Comedy Central, MTV and Nickelodeon channels to the US-based streaming television service on May 1.

Viacom plans to launch three categories of channels: Pluto co-branded flagship channels that are curated versions of Viacom’s top networks; signature channels with specific types of programming from each brand; and pop-up channels offering “marathon-style airings” of series like The Hills.

The co-branded flagship channel line-up is: BET Pluto TV; Comedy Central Pluto TV; MTV Pluto TV; Nick Pluto TV; Nick Jr. Pluto TV; and Spike Pluto TV.

The signature channels are: CMT Westerns; Comedy Central Stand-Up; MTV Dating; MTV Guy Code; MTV Teen; Paramount Movie Channel; and Spike Outdoors.

The first pop-up channel will be MTV’s The Hills, which is due to launch on June 24 in time for the launch of its revival series, The Hills: New Beginnings.

“We are thrilled to expand the Pluto TV offering with the addition of Viacom’s world-class channel brands and iconic programming. This is a major step forward in our mission of entertaining the planet,” states Tom Ryan, CEO and Co-Founder of Pluto TV.

“Viacom has been entertaining audiences for decades with evergreen content that is bold, daring and inspires worldwide fandom. These channels are guaranteed to provide endless entertainment to both new and existing Pluto TV viewers.”

New and original series announced by Viacom Digital Studios at the event included: How to Survive: A Break-Up, a scripted romantic comedy series from AwesomenessTV; BET daily morning talk show, Black Coffee; an untitled late-night Comedy Central show hosted by David Spade; a digital gameshow from Nickelodeon called SpongeBob Smarty Pants Game Show; and MTV No Filter: Tana Turns 21, a show that follows internet personality Tana Mongeau.

“We’re excited to return to the NewFronts after a year of rapid digital acceleration and momentum across the leading social and online video platforms,” said Viacom Digital Studios President, Kelly Day.

“Our remarkable growth continues to be driven by an investment in premium original programming and experiences that engage our young, diverse audiences on the platforms they love most, presenting an unprecedented opportunity for our advertising partners to join the conversation.”
