Operator branded UI possible on CI Plus modules
-
Connected Home
The ActiveVideo CloudTV platform from ActiveVideo Networks has been integrated with CI Plus modules provided by SMiT to enable operator-branded menuing on CI Plus enabled televisions, even without a set-top box. The solution uses the Ethernet or WiFi connectivity of the host TV as a return channel.
“The deployment of CI Plus is gaining traction in Europe as it provides ease of use for consumers and lower cost for cable operators,” states Ronald Brockmann, Managing Director, Europe, for ActiveVideo Networks. “The ActiveVideo solution enables these operators to generate additional revenue and greater loyalty from CI Plus subscribers by offering a rich interactive environment.”
Stephen He, VP of SMiT, whose CI Plus module customers include Kabel Deutschland and Ziggo, says the integration means they can incorporate VOD services and interactivity that can be monetized with CI Plus subscribers.
With the ActiveVideo and SMiT IPVOD CAM, viewers can navigate a completely interactive environment of both linear and broadband programming, including rich interfaces and graphics optimized for TV and remote control navigation. Other features include social networking, personal media, niche content and targeted advertising.

With Videonet he is focused on the unstoppable march towards multiplatform, connected and personalized television. John was editor of Cable & Satellite International (now CSI) for six years before helping launch New Video Technology, and helped develop the IPTV World Series conference programmes from 2006-07. At home, he takes a Sky triple-play bundle, watches around one-third of content time-shifted, enjoys BBC iPlayer on television through the Wii, and eagerly awaits the arrival of YouTube on his own TV (the killer TV application for late on a Friday night). He is still loyal to channels - but can also remember when TV shut down after lunch.
