RCA, the North American CE brand, is providing consumers with a low cost way to enjoy some of the major online content brands – notably Netflix, Hulu Plus and YouTube – on televisions. Having launched a $60 streamer box in the autumn, this functionality has now been built into a ‘sound bar’ speaker that will be available in spring 2012 for around $200. It provides Wi-Fi video streaming to the TV and also wireless Subwoofer sound in an attempt to eliminate wires in the home. The integrated streaming and speaker solution was demonstrated at ‘CES Unveiled’, the eve-of-show technology showcase. RCA has no plans for a more comprehensive Connected TV platform, a spokesman said.
