MegaFon, the Russian mobile provider, is expanding into TV with VOD and live services using a combination of IPTV and OTT, with video security provided by Verimatrix and its VCAS solution for multi-network deployments. MegaLabs, an arm of MegaFon focused on launching and monetizing new products and technologies, is responsible for the TV launch.

VCAS will provide the content security for video over both managed and unmanaged delivery networks to set-top boxes and multi-screen devices (PC, phone and tablet). Vitaly Starodubov, COO at MegaLabs, says the company chose Verimatrix because of its reputation for ensuring a smooth deployment and its excellent security track record, among other things.

“The VCAS platform plays an important role in our new video service offering, since it not only ensures that we are adequately protecting our existing premium content offering, but it also gives us the flexibility to easily extend this revenue protection to any services that we may add in the future,” he added.
