Jonas Hasselberg, Head of Consumer Products at TeliaSonera has been confirmed as a speaker on the live webinar organised by Videonet to discuss ‘The Operator as an App’. The discussion, which starts at 1400 GMT on December 11, also features Vassilis Seferidis, Director, European Business Development at Samsung Electronics and Steve Christian, VP of Marketing at Verimatrix. It therefore brings together the key players in what could be the world’s first true example of the ‘Operator as an App’ model, whereby TeliaSonera is using Samsung Smart TVs as if they were set-top boxes, with the televisions launching into the IPTV UI as the default mode when connected to TeliaSonera homes.
The TeliaSonera/Samsung partnership will debut in Estonia with Elion and there are plans for a Swedish roll-out in Q1 next year and then Finland during 2013.You can read our coverage of this groundbreaking deployment via the links below:

The webcast will discuss this pioneering deployment whilst looking at the wider implications of the ‘Operator as an App’ model for the market. These include the rationale and market for offnet services including Pay TV-Lite, and the attitudes of telcos towards OTT. The panel will also be discussing the content security aspects of making a Pay TV service available through an app.
