Videonet Connected TV Awards winners revealed

The results of the Videonet Connected TV Awards 2015 were announced on Wednesday during an awards ceremony at Connected TV World Summit in London. There were 74 entries in this year’s awards (the fifth time the annual awards have been held). The final results were:

 

CATEGORY: Best TV/Video Service Update or Launch

Winner:
Swisscom, supported by Verimatrix
Swisscom TV 2.0 with secure linear TV over UDP to Android-based set-top box.

Commended:
Telekom Romania, supported by Viaccess-Orca 
Telekom TV multiscreen TV with Voyage TV Everywhere solution.

Also shortlisted: Freeview (Australia), FreeviewPlus ‘green button’ HbbTV service including broadband delivered catch-up; Hotel Internet Services, BeyondTV: Chromecast-like video streaming with access to hotel amenities at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.

 

CATEGORY: Contribution to User Experience

Winner:
Accedo 
Accedo AppGrid cloud-based solution for control and configuration of multiscreen and STB applications.

Commended:
Vigour & Viacom
The MTV Play ‘contextual multiscreen’ OTT platform supported by Vigour Video.

Also shortlisted: VOO, Videowall real-time TV Mosaic categorized by programme genre; Sky Deutschland, Bundesliga live satellite UHD multi-camera broadcast in HEVC at 50 frames per second.

 

CATEGORY: The Multiscreen & Streaming Prize

Winner:
Harmonic
‘IP Video to All Screens’ unified multicast HTTP ABR delivery architecture.

Commended:
Seven West Media
Live streaming of all 600 2015 Australian Open tennis matches across all devices including HbbTV.

Also shortlisted: Clearleap, Cloud-based Live TV and Events Solution for premium live content; Edgeware, Video Consolidation Platform (VCP) single origination and delivery solution for live and on-demand to all device types.

 

CATEGORY: Video Technology Hero 

Winner:
Harmonic
Harmonic VOS software-based and virtualizable platform for broadcast and multiscreen media processing.

Commended: 
SeaChange International
SeaChange Adrenalin back-office platform for multiscreen video services.

Also shortlisted: Verimatrix, Verimatrix MultiRights, arbitrating rights management across multiple device types and DRM formats; Imagine Communications, CloudXtream cloud video platform for multiscreen video distribution and monetization.

 

CATEGORY: Achievement in Advertising

Winner:
TagvanceMedia & LiquidThread Turkey
Kara Para Aşk synchronised second screen app experience.

Commended:
BlackArrow & Time Warner Cable
Dynamic advertising insertion on the TWC app for IP devices.

Also shortlisted: NAGRA, NAGRA MediaLive Secure Player for VOD dynamic advertising insertion with DISH Anywhere.

 

CATEGORY: Outstanding Achievement in TV 2015 

For this prize, the judges consider which of the category winners should be given special recognition. (The advertising category winner is not considered for this prize because the advertising category has its own independent judging panel.)
