A renewal contract between Vewd and Vestel will lead to the first large scale deployment of Smart TVs supporting the HbbTV Operator App (OpApp) standard. OpApp means platform owners can deliver their UX to television sets without the need for a separate set-top box, removing costs for operators. OpApp also keeps consumers constantly updated with the latest applications and features from their operator.
The long-term contract renewal also means Vewd Core (claimed to be the most deployed HTML5 rendering engine SDK in the industry) and Core Modules covering market-specific requirements such as the Media Player module (which is a full-featured streaming stack with integration components for video, audio and DRM – ported and ready on the leading TV silicon platforms) will be deployed across the full range of Vestel Smart TVs.
“The multi-year agreement results in Vewd delivering its latest streaming software to support premium content owner requirements and providing content owners with access to Vestel’s reach through brands like Hitachi and Telefunken,” Vewd explains.
Vestel produces more than 100 of the world’s best-known TV brands, including JVC, Hitachi, Telefunken and Toshiba. With a long history of collaboration, Vestel and Vewd have enabled TVs with the latest TV apps, streaming technology and hybrid TV capabilities. Millions of Vestel-produced TVs will ship each year with Vewd providing the entire streaming environment.
Barış Altınkaya, Deputy General Manager of Marketing and Product Management, Vestel, says: “Vestel has relied on Vewd to deliver the most robust OTT and hybrid TV technologies on millions of Smart TVs each year. For our brands, the quality of the OTT and hybrid TV experience is paramount to support robust growth. Vewd is the only partner we trust to work seamlessly from silicon to content and deliver an unsurpassed viewing experience.”
Aneesh Rajaram, CEO at Vewd, adds: “Vestel knows they can rely on Vewd to enable any app, on any OS, running on any chipset and working flawlessly in any country. The multi-year renewal of our long-standing partnership ensures that Vestel will have the best in broadcast, hybrid TV, and leading OTT content.”
