DAZN launches two broadcast channels as part of Vodafone Germany partnership

Vodafone has become the first reseller of DAZN in Germany in a deal that sees the launch of two linear broadcast HD channels that are available via the set-top box and standard EPG (delivered across the cable network, and not streamed). Vodafone customers can also access a complete DAZN experience via an app; the two companies already announced the pre-installation of the DAZN app on the Vodafone GigaTV platform earlier this year.

The DAZN content is added to the monthly TV bill for Vodafone customers. It is part of a brand new package (combining the app and the complimentary linear channels) costing €9.99 per month on a one-year contract.

The HD channels, DAZN1 and DAZN2, will each show approximately 16 hours of the best sports content every day, from top competitions including the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and Bundesliga. The onboarded DAZN app continues to offer all live content and original programming, and this provides benefits like alternative audio feeds, catch-up and highlights.

DAZN already broadcasts DAZN1 and DAZN2 in Italy, via satellite with Sky, into homes and commercial premises like bars. These include select content including Serie A and Serie B football and went live in August 2019 in time for the new Serie A season. In Germany, the new HD channels will also be broadcast to commercial premises (bars, restaurants, hotels, betting shops, service apartments, etc.) via satellite with Sky.

Ben King, Chief Subscription Officer at DAZN Group, comments: “Our philosophy is to make premium sport more accessible and affordable for all fans. This consumer-centric partnership with Vodafone now brings DAZN to more than five million German households, regardless of whether they can access the app on their set-top box, and lets them pay for all their entertainment on a single bill. It is a great example of how entertainment services and operators can collaborate to deliver more intuitive and satisfying viewing experiences for all sport fans.”

Rolf Wierig, Global Head of Entertainment at Vodafone Group, says: “This extends our existing partnership with DAZN and perfectly demonstrates Vodafone’s positioning as a leading video content aggregation platform, delivering a superior experience across high-quality TV and flexible on-demand video streaming, with best-in-class service provider cooperation. We extend a very warm welcome to the fantastic new high-definition channels DAZN will bring to our GigaTV premium sports line-up in Germany.”

The DAZN app is also integrated on Vodafone TV set-top boxes in Italy and pre-installed on the SkyQ set-top box in that country.
