Media Distillery, an AI for video technology provider, has partnered with the content solutions pillar of Nielsen, Gracenote, to enhance Electronic Programming Guides (EPG) for TV. Media Distillery – an AI for video technology provider – has teamed up with the content solutions pillar of Nielsen, Gracenote, to enhance Electronic Programming Guide (EPG) utility by conducting real-time correction of inaccurate start/end times for programmes. The joint solution combines Media Distillery’s EPG Correction™ technology with Gracenote’s Global Video Data Offering – which includes entertainment metadata and content IDs – to redress the issue of programmes ending slightly before or after the displayed time on the EPG. Media Distillery notes that this a common problem TV platforms face while broadcasting linear content, resulting in viewers missing out on the beginning of shows, or being forced to sit through the end of shows prior to the ones they intend to watch. By providing real-time EPG correction, the solution promises to provide improved control over replay and catch-up viewing experiences, as well as content navigation and digital video recorder functionality.

The solution is available to Pay TV operators, including cable, satellite, terrestrial, and IPTV, as well as streaming service providers. The technology provides TV operators with a single, unified API, which Media Distillery argues is important for improving efficiencies in technology and engineering resourcing, as well as effort and management time.

“This new solution from Media Distillery and Gracenote was brought to market for a fundamental reason – the distinct need to deliver actual programme start times in the latest content discovery paradigms,” said Simon Adams, Chief Product Officer, Gracenote. “Media Distillery’s innovative technology naturally complements Gracenote’s best-in-class metadata, and we look forward to this collaboration enabling existing and potential customers to deliver better user experiences.”

Media Distillery’s current customers include large operators such as Telenet, NOS, VTR Chile and YouSee, and its AI technology is incorporated into user experiences in 30 million homes across the globe.
