LaLiga has announced that it is partnering with Twitch on The Sportscasters by Twitch programme, which will see streamers on the platform accredited as commentators for LaLiga football matches for the first time.
These streamers will commentate on matches in-person from customised commentary boxes within LaLiga Santander stadia, which will be viewable on their individual Twitch channels. The first commentary will see content creator /Perxitaa live streaming from the Estadio de Mestalla for the match between Valencia CF and FC Barcelona.
LaLiga notes that, while streamers will be unable to display live match footage, the growing trend of live sports commentary on Twitch has seen millions of viewers follow streamers’ reactions to sports events. These viewers can interact and participate in streams by commenting on the latest developments of the event using Twitch’s live chat.
Alfredo Bermejo, LaLiga’s Director of Digital Strategy, say: “This agreement with Twitch and some of the most popular streamers in its community brings fans of these streamers closer to their favourite football teams, giving them an experience that they have never been able to enjoy before. It is yet another step in LaLiga’s strategy to pre-empt and adapt to the needs of its fans”.
Farhan Ahmed, Twitch’s Director, Creator Expansion, EMEA, comments: “LaLiga was quick to recognise the power of livestreaming on Twitch and today’s announcement is an extremely exciting development for our community. Twitch streamers like Perxitaa are celebrated for their ability to create authentic, unedited, live content while leading a dialogue with fans.”
“Through this collaboration, fans will be able to share real-time moments with streamers and a community of like-minded people, while streamers will create unique, unscripted moments from LaLiga match days that wouldn’t be accessible through any other format.”
